And I suppose it would have been either Activision or EA that would win any bid, but TEN YEARS is a surprise. Especially with the IW stuff, though it is probable that this was in the works before that started. Heck, maybe Activision figured it's safe to piss off IW because they had Bungie in the bag.

I do hope they let Bungie have a lot of freedom, but Activision is the money, and the money has the power. I'm sure Bungie wouldn't have signed the deal if they hadn't gotten good...

Bungie had said that they were happy with Microsoft, but were interested in doing a multi-platform game. I'm not surprised with this because I always figured there was a reason they broke from MS (rumors were that MS wanted too much creative control for Bungie's taste), so at some point they would work with a different publisher.

I think GoW III should be the end of Kratos' story, but there is potential for his brother. There is a hint in GoW III that the brother was groomed as an agent of Hades like Kratos was an agent of Ares. That would mean that the brother could use a weapon like the Claws of Hades, which allows a carry-over of the same signature core combat mechanics (and would make for a really cool "soul collecting" feature). One of my complaints of GoW III was that the Claws played too similar to...

After 7 years of God of War, maybe HS would be just different enough for them.

Actually, I used one of the free rentals that cam with my PS3. I would love to own HS, but I beat it the night before I had to return it, so i can't justify spending $60 on it, and I have never found it cheaper (though haven't actively looked). Maybe I should break down and go to Gamestop and check for used copies

Edit: Just checked Gamestop.com and they have it new for $25. That's really tempting.

I thought that was by far the biggest flaw in the game, and I like your thought on it. ***SPOILER*** I am now going to assume that Ethan's blackouts were because of some mishandled hypnotherapy or something and the game just doesn't tell us that very well.

Edit @ above: aaahhh, Kate Beckinsale

It was an experiment. The first of its kind. It will take time for developers to learn the best ways to handle this type of experience.

They took stuff out because, with all the different endings, the game became a bit too long for multiple playthroughs. I think it had more to do with the same reasons movie scenes are deleted: interrupting the "flow", didn't add anything, etc.

"The Butterfly" was possibly the most intense moment I've ever experienced in a video game, despite how slow paced it is. I actually had to get up off the couch to shake it off and take a breath. There was a lot of illusion to that tension, but I thought it was genius anyway. It may hurt the replay value, but I wanted to play through it again to see the different endings and how my choices affect it.

Side note: my favorite ending was "A Mother's Revenge."

So a web site visited by people looking for deals found that most of the people visiting their site bought PS3's used?

Interesting?

I said it in another post here, as well. Video games can give extra weight to the moral dilemmas of their protagonists by have the player be an active participant rather than an observer. There's a lot to explore there, including finding the best ways to explore it.

But the average movie-goer or music listener doesn't really care if those are art forms, either. The artistry of those media are transparent to many people, but there are others who spend their careers examining it so that it can become an even better form of entertainment.

I may be looking forward to "Iron Man 2", but that doesn't mean I can't also appreciate the artistry of "Pan's Labyrinth."

I had forgotten just how well that scene was done.

I think that's the mistake in Ebert's argument. He thinks of video games as being games in the same sense as other games. He thinks that video games are about "winning" by being the first person to achieve some goal. His criticisms of "flower" reveal that misconception. He doesn't know that video games are becoming a story-telling medium as much as movies. Not all video games are art, in fact very few are, but neither are most movies.

I agree that video g...

I think he means that the previews we've been seeing for both have been pretty similar, but people (on both sides) are bashing one while praising the other. The difference, as I see it, is that at E3, Microsoft showed an awesome concept that was poorly executed. Project Natal seemed laggy, glitchy, and imprecise, and has shown very little since to allay my skepticism. Sony, though, showed something that was incredibly precise and worked very well (though you can see a small amount of lag i...

I wonder if they are going to change it. Rumors are that it was actually the "Arc" logo, but they had to change the name at 11th hour, so maybe they will change the logo, too.

I'd rather spend $100 on Move for my PS3 than $200 on a Wii.

You said: "Kotick may be an exploitive douche, but eventually his practices will end up backfiring hurting him and the company he represents."

We don't know the details, but what's going on over at Infinity Ward may be the start of that.

Or does the woman on the right side of that picture look a little like Kari Byron from Mythbusters?

Yeah, if I remember correctly, he was actually a championship skateboarder, and even invented a move. To me though, he will always be Brodie from Mallrats.
